Scott Williams, VP of Compliance & SecurityFor organizations that are required to be compliant (HIPAA, PCI, etc.), Disaster Recovery is no longer an option; it’s an absolute necessity. Luckily, achieving a comprehensive Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plan is not as complex as it used to be. Organizations with virtual environments can now be replicated to a third party provider’s data center with minimal effort or disruption to their production environments. However, the key to a complete DR solution is not only replication, it’s the ability to automate and orchestrate a complete system failover test without interruption to business operations.
“Technology has advanced, and organizations don't have to replicate entire servers or platforms on a remote site and double their expense,” points out Scott Williams, VP of Compliance and Security at WHOA.com. As a provider of next-generation ISO 27001 certified secure cloud solutions, WHOA.com offers a comprehensive portfolio of best-in-class secure cloud services for businesses, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), PCI DSS, HIPAA Compliance, and Disaster Recovery. WHOA.com’s comprehensive network of multiple Tier IV data centers are strategically located across the U.S. driving business continuity and reliable delivery of business-critical applications in the event of a disaster.
As a part of their all-inclusive DR as a Service (DRaaS), WHOA.com offers a versatile intrusion detection and intrusion prevention system providing customers unprecedented real time visibility into their perimeter security. “With our DR solution, the clients are benefiting from our cyber-secure Threat Observation PlatformTM which conforms to security protocols and compliance policies,” adds Williams. The firm has a high availability infrastructure, certified policies and procedures for HIPAA and Omnibus, PCI DSS, and ISO 27001:2013— ensuring data, auditing, and logging integrity.
During failover testing the customer was astonished to realize a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of less than one minute and a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) under 30 seconds
In one customer instance, there was a requirement to replicate their data from the east coast to the west coast. WHOA.com designed and implemented a solution that replicated 1 terabyte of data within 12 hours from an on-premise location to WHOA.com’s Las Vegas data center. WHOA.com provided the client with consultative analysis and guided them through the operational aspects and failover testing.
During failover testing the customer was astonished to realize a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of less than one minute and a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) under 30 seconds. As a result, the client eventually incorporated extra virtual protection groups to additional servers, as a scalable on demand option, to meet their growing needs.
With a strong Healthcare IT background in security, compliance, and performance, Williams is a passionate advocate of data privacy for healthcare information. Treading ahead, WHOA.com plans to collaborate with healthcare and e-commerce customers to help them simplify their replication processes, work through regulations, and move data from one cloud platform to another. “We are a hardware-agnostic and platform-friendly organization with a penchant for evaluating newer platforms to stay competitive in the DR landscape,” concludes Williams.
